Setting Up Your Computer for Java Coding Classes

Welcome to our Java coding classes! To ensure a smooth learning experience for your child, please follow these instructions to set up their computer with the necessary software before the first class.

You will need the following tools and accounts to participate effectively in our Java coding classes:

  • IntelliJ IDEA for coding by JetBrains

  • Java Development Kit (JDK) by Oracle

  • Zoom Account for online classes and office hours

  • Email on Gmail

  • Google Classrom

Minimum Computer Requirement :

  • Laptop with Operating System: Windows 8.1/10 (64-bit recommended) or macOS 10.13 or later.

  • RAM: 8 GB (16 GB recommended).

  • CPU: Modern Intel or AMD processor with 64-bit support (dual-core minimum, quad-core recommended).

  • Disk Space: 50 GB of free space (SSD recommended).

  • Display: A monitor with a minimum resolution of 1024x768 (1920x1080 recommended).

  • Internet: A reliable internet connection is required for online classes.

  • Additional: An external mouse (for laptops) and headphones/speakers.

Software Installation

To participate in our Java coding classes, please ensure that the following software is installed on your child's computer:

Java Development Kit (JDK) by Oracle:

For Windows:

  1. Visit the official Oracle website www.oracle.com or

    click - > Download JDK 11.0.20 for Windows.

  2. Click on the "Oracle JDK Download" button for the Windows version.

  3. Follow the installation instructions provided.

For macOS:

  1. Visit the official Oracle website: www.oracle.com or

    click - > Download JDK 11.0.20 for macOS.

  2. Click on the "Oracle JDK Download" button for the macOS version.

  3. Install the JDK by dragging it into the Applications folder.

IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition by JetBrains:

For Windows:

  1. Visit the JetBrains website: www.jetbrains.com or

    click - > Download IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition for Windows.

  2. Download the Community Edition for Windows.

  3. Follow the installation instructions provided. Ensure that you create a JetBrains account when prompted.

For macOS:

  1. Visit the JetBrains website: www.jetbrains.com or

    click - > Download IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition for macOS.

  2. Download the Community Edition for macOS.

  3. Follow the installation instructions provided. Ensure that you create a JetBrains account when prompted.

Zoom Account:

  1. To participate in online classes and office hours, you can create a Zoom account by visiting the Zoom Sign Up page.

  2. Additionally, you can download the Zoom desktop app for a smoother online learning experience by visiting the Zoom Download Center.

  3. Please ensure that the Zoom account uses your child's real First and Last name.

Gmail Account & Google Classroom:

  1. You can create a Gmail account for your child by visiting the Gmail Sign Up page.

  2. Please ensure that the Gmail account uses your child's real First and Last name.

  3. Students will use Google Classroom for class activities and assignments. Invitations to Google Classroom will be provided to their Gmail accounts after the firt class.
